Srinagar, Jun 11: Construction of the much awaited Mehjoor Nagar Bridge has been completed and the bridge will be thrown open for general traffic on Monday.
After missing two deadlines in December and May the bridge is finally complete and will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.
Though completed a month back, the bridge connecting Lasjan, Padshahi Bagh, Mehjoor Nagar and adjacent areas with the Srinagar city was yet to be thrown open as it needed official inauguration.
There was no public movement allowed over the bridge even after its completion as the authorities had erected barricades on the bridge.
People have been criticizing the delay on part of the government to inaugurate the bridge as commuters were facing lot of problems during its construction and then the closure even when it was complete in all respects.
Director Economic Reconstruction (ERA), Kashmir, Showkat Ahmad Wani said, “Bridge is now complete and will be thrown open on Monday at 12 noon. We would have inaugurated it earlier but there were some objections to it from some people.” (RK)
